5. TO H.E. Mr. BRONISLAW KOMOROWSKI, CHAIRMAN OF THE SEJM,
ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND
Baku, April 10, 2010

Esteemed Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski,
I was so very sad to hear of the tragic death of the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his spouse Maria Kaczynska as well as officials of the Polish Administration`s President, members of the Senate and Sejm and top-ranking officers of the Polish army who were killed in a plane crash, which is a great loss to the people of Poland and the whole European family.
In the person of President Lech Kaczynski, the world community and the Polish people have lost a man of high moral values, a state figure and politician who selflessly served his people throughout his life. Please pass my deepest sympathies on to the Polish people and family members and friends of the dead.
President Lech Kaczynski played an invaluable role in building close friendship and cooperation between Poland and Azerbaijan. We met many times during reciprocal visits and at different international events. In addition to being a friend of Azerbaijan he won popularity and sympathy of the Azerbaijani people as a European politician. He was honored with Azerbaijan`s highest state award, the Heydar Aliyev Order, for his outstanding contribution to developing the relations between the two countries.
I share the grief of the brotherly people of Poland and wish them patience and endurance. The great son of the Polish people will always live in the memories of the people of Azerbaijan
Ilham Aliyev
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
