  PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV LEFT FOR REPUBLIC OF KOREA ON OFFICIAL VISIT
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev left April 22 for the Republic of Korea on an official visit.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived April 23 in the Republic of Korea for a three-day state visit.
At Seoul military airport decorated with national flags of the Republics of Azerbaijan and Korea, he was greeted with 21-gun salutes.
President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were welcomed by Korean state and government officials.
The Azerbaijani leader inspected the Guard of Honor.

President Ilham Aliyev visited the National War Memorial in Seoul.
He toured the Memorial and laid a wreath at the monument to soldiers and policemen killed in action.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was officially welcomed at the Chongwadae residence of Korean President.
The President and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were warmly greeted here by President Roh Moo-hyun and first lady of South Korea.
The two Presidents inspected the Guard of Honor, whose commander reported to the Azerbaijani leader.
Members of the Azerbaijani delegation were introduced to President Roh Moo-hyun, and South Korean officials to President Ilham Aliyev.

After the meeting of the heads of state at Chong Wa Dae, the signing ceremony of documents on bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and South Korea in the presence of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Roh Moo-hyun took place.
First, Presidents signed a joint declaration between Azerbaijan and South Korea.
Heydar Babayev, Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan and Song Min-soon Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea signed an agreement on promotion and protection of investments between the governments of Azerbaijan and South Korea.
Rho Jun-hyong, South Korean information and communication minister, and his counterpart Ali Abbasov signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of an e-government model in Azerbaijan.
Lee Yong-sup, South Korean Construction and Transport minister and Ziya Mammadov, Azerbaijani Minister of Transport signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of intellectual traffic system.
Besides, memorandums of understanding on cooperation in the field of emergency management and energy were signed between the governments of the two states.

On 23 April, on behalf of President Roh Moo-hyun of Korea and his spouse, a state banquet was arranged in honor of the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva.

State visit of the Azerbaijan President to the Republic of Korea is in progress.

President Ilham Aliyev on 24 April got acquainted with the Seoul Transport Operation & Information Service system (TOPIS).
Vice-mayor of Seoul Kim Hyun Kyon informed on the system created for operation of transport in the capital with 12-million population. TOPIS, a system of intellectual management of city transport, includes adjustment of public transport, involvement of additional busses in rush hours, giving relevant instructions in case of traffic jam and other functions. It also controls illegal parking of vehicle and registration of car crashes. President of Azerbaijan familiarized himself with the intellectual management system.
As stated, similar center will be created in Baku and an agreement between the relevant construction structures of the two countries on MOU has been signed on 23 April in Seoul.
According to preliminary estimations, the 50-55 million worth project is scheduled to start in the second half of this year and complete in 2009. All data necessary for management of transport operations in the city of Baku will be collected in this Center and through Internet, mobile phone, TV and radio waves delivered to both passengers and drivers.
Head of the Azerbaijan State stressed necessity of creation of such a system of management of transport system in the capital of Azerbaijan as well.

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev today visited the Kyung Hee University in Seoul to receive a title of honorary doctor bestowed upon him for contribution to development of his country.
Before the ceremony on this occasion, the Azerbaijani leader met with the president, teaching staff and students of the University.
After that, a ceremony to give the title of the University’s honorary doctor to Ilham Aliyev took place.
Speaking at the ceremony, the University’s President Inwon Choue said the award was given to the Azerbaijani President for his contribution to peace, security and development in his country.
Doctor Choue stressed it was Ilham Aliyev’s policy that helped Azerbaijan reach today’s level of economic development, and achieve huge progress in energy sector.
President Ilham Aliyev said he will continue contributing to further enhancement of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and South Korea.
On Azerbaijan’s education system, Mr. Aliyev said a huge attention is paid to education in his country.
He stressed a state program adopted to allow Azerbaijani students to get their education abroad.
Speaking on his country’s economic development, President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan leads the world in the economic growth rate.
“Azerbaijan’s huge oil and gas reserves will guarantee energy security of its friends and partners for many years” Ilham Aliyev stressed.
Touching upon the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani President described the dispute as a major problem in the region.
Ilham Aliyev said Armenia conducted “the policy of ethnic cleansing in our territories”.
“Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is recognized by the whole international community”, he said.
The ceremony ended with a concert program performed by the University’s students.

President Ilham Aliyev has arrived Tuesday in Busan, South Korea`s second largest metropolis after Seoul.
The Azerbaijani leader met with Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik.
The Mayor said the Azerbaijani President`s current visit to South Korea will boost economic relations between the two countries.
Ilham Aliyev noted Busan`s economic development, saying it is an evidence of South Korea`s prosperity.
The Azerbaijan President stressed the importance of strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Later the same day, the Busan Mayor hosted an official reception in honor of President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.
