  PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV HEADS TO HUNGARY
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev left for Hungary for a state visit on Monday.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived today in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, for a state visit.
At the Ferihegy-2 international airport, the Azerbaijani leader and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were welcomed by senior Hungarian state and government officials.
President Ilham Aliyev inspected a ceremonial guard of honor.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on 18 February was officially welcomed in front the Sándor Palace, residence of the President of Hungary.
President of Azerbaijan revered the guard of honor at the square adorned with state flags of both countries.
Hungarian President László Sólyom greeted President Aliyev. Then, the state anthems were performed.
The state and governmental delegations on both sides were introduced to each other.
Guard of honor and cavalry revered the heads of states.
Deeply interested in Azerbaijan President’s visit, the residents of Hungarian capital gathered to watch the official welcoming ceremony.
After the ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev signed the Book of Honorary Guests. The two Presidents were taken their photos in memory.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Laszlo Solyom of Hungary today met at the Sandor Palace in presence of delegations.

Opening the meeting, the Hungarian President said they consider Azerbaijan in the Caucasus as strategic partner and the relations between the two countries develop dynamically, and the bilateral relations in the frame of European Union serve expansion of cooperation. There are good opportunities for development of economic ties, especially in the field of energy, Mr. Laszlo Solyom stressed. At the same time, Hungary is keen in development of relations in the field of education and science, he concluded.

Noting development of bilateral relations between the two countries in numerous fields, President Ilham Aliyev said the sides step forward. The new documents to be signed during current visit will create legal ground for that, President Aliyev underlined. At his words, Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Hungary in integration to the Euro-Atlantic structures will promote further expansion of the country’s integration to Europe. Underlining that economic ties have good prospects, the President of Azerbaijan emphasized importance of the business forum to be held on 19 February. The President highly estimated discussions in the energy sphere.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Head of the Azerbaijan State reminded that 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories were occupied and over one million of people were ousted from their homelands and currently live in hard plight.

Hungarian President said his country supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, emphasizing that the conflicts should be solved peacefully.

Ceremony of signing the bilateral documents between Azerbaijan and Hungary was held on 18 February at the Sandor Palace in Budapest.
President of Azerbaijan and President of Hungary signed joint statement.
The two sides have signed document on economic cooperation, the agreement on elimination of double taxation for incomes and property and on tax evasion, the Agreement on cooperation between the Industry and Energy Ministry of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Economy and Transport of Hungary.
Foreign Ministers of the two countries have signed Joint Declaration.
After the documents were signed, the two Presidents held a news conference for media representatives.

After signing the documents on bilateral relations, Presidents of Azerbaijan and Hungary held a joint press conference on Monday at the Hungarian President`s Palace. The Heads of States made their statements.
“We consider that relationships between the two countries are at high level, and there are good prospects for development today`s relations in the future,” said Hungarian President, adding signing the documents has created a legal basis for these prospects.
Laszlo Solyom thanked Azerbaijani leader for having a plaque installed in Azerbaijan in commemoration of Hungarian soldiers who died in Azerbaijan during the World War II.
Solyom said Hungarian companies are keen on investing in the agrarian sector of Azerbaijan in the future. According to him, both countries are interested in diversification of energy supplies, in particular, transportation of energy resources via Hungary to Europe. From this point of view, Hungary supports the Nabucco project, the President noted.
“Hungary wants to share its experience in the field of integration within the framework of the European Union`s New Neighborhood Policy. We support ongoing reforms to establish the rule of law and democracy in Azerbaijan. At the same time, we will support the establishment of European Union`s standards, in particular, human rights and freedom of the press standards in Azerbaijan,” said the Hungarian President.
In his turn, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev thanked Hungarian counterpart for inviting to Hungary.
“Our relationships are strategic, and no doubt, they will be strengthened in all areas even more after this visit. With political ties developing, of course, the cooperation in the economic sphere will reach a much higher level as well,” President Aliyev said in his statement.
According to Ilham Aliyev, at the beginning of implementation of the European Union`s New Neighborhood Policy in 2006, Azerbaijan`s aim was to bring existing criteria in Azerbaijan within five years in line with those of the European Union. According to him, Azerbaijan is moving towards its aim at a high pace.
President Ilham Aliyev said discussions also dealt with energy security issues, which are of great importance to the world and Europe. He said he is hopeful that this factor will play its role in development of bilateral relations.
“Azerbaijan has very rich oil and gas fields. Four pipelines transport oil and gas produced in Azerbaijan in four directions to the European and world markets. At the end of the last year, for the first time in the history, Azerbaijani gas was shipped to the European Union area,” said the Head of State. He noted Europe`s energy security will be ensured even more as soon as new projects are implemented.
“I invited Mr. President to Azerbaijan for an official visit, and we are ready to welcome him in Azerbaijan at his convenience. I am sure this visit will be definitely successful and play a serious role in developing bilateral relationships,” President Aliyev added.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on 18 February was given the title of Honorary Doctor of the CORVINUS University of Budapest, one of the authoritative higher educational institutions of Hungary.

President Ilham Aliyev was welcomed by Dr. Tamas Meszaros, rector of CORVINUS University. At the meeting with participation of Board, the Rector informed the President of Azerbaijan on the University with 7 departments and 620 tutors and 17 thousands students, one of the largest Universities in the Central Europe.

As stated, the University, founded in 1919, in the latest five years, has given the honorary title only to the President of Azerbaijan.

Then, the ceremony continued at the conference hall, where the audience cheered the First Lady of Azerbaijan. Pro-Rector of the University greeted the delegation of Azerbaijan, introduced the Board of University.

Rector Tamas Meszaros presented the Diploma of Honorary Doctor to the Head of the Azerbaijan State.

President Ilham Aliyev addressed the ceremony.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Laszlo Solyom of Hungary attended the Azerbaijan-Hungary business forum on Tuesday in Budapest.
The business forum organized by the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation brought together some 20 companies from Azerbaijan and 80 from Hungary.
Opening the forum director of the Hungarian Trade and Development Agency Sult Tibor greeted the Presidents, and said that the event would be fruitful for both sides.
Presidents of Hungary and Azerbaijan made their remarks at the event.
On the sidelines of the forum, Azerbaijan`s ANJT-2000 company and Hungary`s MOL oil and gas PLC signed a contract on raw materials purchase from Hungary.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited today the Hungarian Parliament as part of his Budapest trip.
In front of the Parliament building, the Azerbaijani leader and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were warmly welcomed by Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany and his wife Klara Dobrev.
Afterwards, President Ilham Aliyev had a conversation with Ferenc Gyurcsany who stressed the importance of the meeting in terms of defining and developing bilateral economic relations.
Ferenc Gyurcsany recalled his last month meeting with the Azerbaijani leader during World Economic Forum in Davos.
He said Hungary is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in power, non-oil, scientific, educational and cultural fields.
The Hungarian Premier stressed his country views Azerbaijan as its reliable partner in the region.
President Ilham Aliyev said there are good prospects for enhancing economic relations between the two countries, and noted the importance of Azerbaijan-Hungary business forum.
The Azerbaijani leader also touched upon opportunities for making reciprocal investments.
He spoke of ongoing economic development processes in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani President said his country today plays the role of a bridge between Asia and Europe which he added is also important from the regional point of view.
Both Ilham Aliyev and Ferenc Gyurcsany expressed confidence that scientific, educational and cultural cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary will further enhance both in bilateral format and within European structures.

Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany hosted a lunch in honor of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev at the Parliament building in Budapest on Tuesday.
After the lunch, the Azerbaijani leader viewed the Parliament`s conference hall as well as the Crown of St. Stephen in the lobby.
The Hungarian National Assembly consists of 386 members elected to four-year terms.
President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with a new office building for Azerbaijan`s embassy in Budapest on Tuesday.
In front of the building, the Azerbaijani President and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Hasan Hasanov and employees of the embassy.
The embassy is located on the same street as those of Spain, Turkey, Austria, Czechia and Russia.
The building occupies the total area of more than 1,000 square meters. ,

President Ilham Aliyev viewed the embassy`s exhibition hall as well as national leader Heydar Aliyev`s bust.
The President congratulated Azerbaijani diplomats with the opening of new office building and wished them success in their further activity.

President Ilham Aliyev ended his state visit to Budapest Tuesday.
At the Ferihegy-2 international airport, the Azerbaijani leader inspected a ceremonial guard of honor. He was seen off by senior Hungarian state and government officials.
Later the same day, President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Baku, and was welcomed at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Chief of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalybov.
